time to celebrate

Our lives were changed forever on Friday.
For the less graphic details, read on.

Simon and I found ourselves at Cipriani, a fancy restaurant in London. It is famous for its Italian food, which was incredible. After our orders were placed, I handed Simon a gift and card, which read, “Congratulations, Simon. I love you.” I told him that I was so proud of his amazing GMAT score last week. Then he took the gift, which he suspected was a tie. I had it strategically wrapped in gray paper and a black bow, to make him think it was something for him. But he pulled out a tiny baby onesie. He was totally confused. “Are you pregnant?” I guess I didn’t send a strong enough signal. I should have walked into the restaurant wearing the baby outfit. After convincing him that it was indeed true, he was so happy and we kissed over the table. I had just found out myself only 2 hours earlier and was still a little shaky and emotional. He better get used to that I guess.

The outfit said "Harrod's Baby" on it because I had to buy something fast and they were the only store open at the time. We think it's kind of funny that our baby's first outfit is from Harrod's. And no, I will not turn into one of those mothers who thinks their kid somehow deserves to wear designer brand socks. Oh no. This kid is going to wear the French uniforms just like all the other chillins in this neighborhood.

He had always said that we could have a baby whenever I wanted to, because he was fine with any time. This attitude made me feel better. Which is good because when I was buying the baby gift on the way to meet him at dinner, a man told me that I should have gotten him a
gas mask.

Who knew we were such fertile myrtles? I don’t even know how it happened. …Well I’m pretty sure I remember how it happened.... but we were trying not to get pregnant until next summer! I suppose this baby had plans of her* own and wanted to come join the party. And it is a welcome surprise. Simon’s brother and his wife are due in March,
so these baby cousins will have a playmate.

Our due date: April 6th, 2009.

I feel like my worth as a human being just skyrocketed a thousand percent. I think Juno says it best, “Excuse me. I am a sacred vessel, alright? All you've got in your stomach is Taco Bell.”

This is how far along we are. You can already see Simon's characteristics being passed on. Especially in the tail bud and giant brain.

*Yes I’m hoping for a girl. Obviously. I was 5 pounds when I was born and Simon was like 12! When I turned one I was weighing in at 14 pounds- practically Simon's birth weight! He is 6’5” (a whole foot taller than me) and twice my body weight. Can you imaging having to birth a baby of a giant? I have—and more so lately. This baby is going to rip me in half! The only thing that makes me feel any better is the thought that maybe it will be a girl and have my body type and I’ll hardly even notice I’m in labor as I casually flip the pages of my magazine.
